The Mission San Juan Capistrano, a California landmark and city icon, was founded in 1775, a year prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is a place of historical, cultural, and religious significance as well as a center of inspiration and education. The Mission has long been a popular destination for tourists who come from around the world to see the preserved Spanish architecture and lovely gardens and perhaps to celebrate the return of the swallows that faithfully fly back to the Mission every year on March 19, St. Joseph’s Day.
